The numbers are embedded in a red dot so they stand out.

The red grid system highlight the 1/2" markings while the black lines highlight the full inch markings.
Use both the red and black lines to square up blocks or to cut your squares.

1/4"markings in black and 1/8" markings in white are there as well--in different colours to avoid confusion and accidentally getting the wrong line.
The 1/8" markings are in white so as not to distract when using the more commonly used 1/4" markings.

Diagonal lines mark the 30,45 and 60 degree angles.
